It was evaluated the effect of the calving season and the suckling system in the efficiency reproductive postpartum of cows managed under the system of double purpose in a farm located in the municipality of Chinú, Córdoba department.
60 multiparous cows were used, they were homogeneous in the number of calve, production of milk, handling, sanity and feeding. They were distributed in four treatments using a design totally at random, with a factorial arrangement 2x2 with two season (drought and rain) and two suckling systems (traditional and restricted) with 15 repetitions for experimental group: T1 - drought x traditional - T2 - drought x restricted - T3 - rain x traditional - T4 - rain x restricted. The seasons didn’t have effect (P>0.05) on the gestation rate (50 % for the dry season vs 40% for the rain season) neither the open days (132.13 ± 65.35 vs 138.71 ± 60.21 for the dry season and rain respectively). It is was an effect of the suckling on the gestation rate and the open days (P<0.05), being bigger for the restricted suckling (70% and 109.00 ± 52.93 days) compared with the traditional one (20% and 161.87 ± 60.14 days). On the other hand, an effect was determined in the accumulated frequency of open days, being the best results in the treatments T2 and T4 (P<0.016). The study allowed to conclude that the suckling reduces the anoestrus postpartum and it improves the reproductive efficiency in bovine managed under the system of double purpose.
