Publicación Acceso abierto Modelos no lineales para estimación de curva de crecimiento de crías bovinas machos(Revista Facultad Nacional de Agronomía Medellín, 2020-01) Botero Arango, Luz Mercedes; Vertel Morinson, Melba; Rodríguez Arango, EmilianoThe objective of this study was to analyze nonlinear models to describe the growth from birth to weaning of male calves managed under the double purpose production. A total of 468 data points, resulting from 9 monthly weighing’s from birth to weaning of 52 male calves of Bos indicus x Bos Taurus crosses, born in December 2010 were used. Nonlinear models Brody, Bertalanffy, Richards, logistic and Gompertz considering the selection criteria as: EMC, coefficient of determination and biological interpretation. The Brody model was the most appropriate model to estimate body growth from birth to weaning of male beef calves, allowing characterization and prediction of the growth of calves of dual purpose cattle in the Colombian Caribbean region, contributing to the design of management strategies to produce animals with appropriate weight development according market requirements.
